The REES market in Tuscany is growing and dynamic, reflecting an increasing political commitment at both national and regional levels.
At the national level, it required only five years for Italy to substitute half of its petroleum consumption for natural gas and more than 25% of electricity is produced through co-generation. In the context of 2008 Budget Law definition, parliament is finding consensus on consolidating and integrating existing support mechanisms with additional incentives, such as the extension of feed-in tariff Conto Energia from solar to other renewables.
The commitment of the regional government to the sector is significant and a new Regional Energy Plan (PIER) is in place from march 2008. The PIER likely indicate the priority REES markets for future investment, with explicit growth objectives and clearer guidelines for authorization and administrative processes.
In the following graphic are showed the current gap to reach regional 2020 targets.
Further, REES demand can be expected to increase as pressure to meet EU objectives grows and ever-more environmentally aware Italian consumers exercise their right to select their energy suppliers. Moreover, as part of the EU, Tuscan-based REES enterprises may participate in the sector in any of the member states, while enjoying the benefits of the Tuscan life style.
