The fashion industry, thanks to creativity, regard for the materials and the attention to detail that is typical of the companies present in the Region, is one of the strengths of the Tuscany economy. Besides, it is not by chance that a true and proper world centre for luxury has established itself here over the last two decades. Dozens of leading companies have their head office or manufacture in Tuscany: from Gucci to Ferragamo, from Tod’s to Dolce&Gabbana, from Fendi to Prada, from Céline to Dior. Hence, big labels, alongside which a network of small and medium-sized enterprises exists which, thanks to the high quality of its products, has attained prominent positions in the global market.

In Tuscany there are around 21,500 businesses in the fashion sector (around 22% of the Italian businesses) for a total of 98,700 employees (18.5% of the Italian figure).

The largest production segment is Textiles (6,750 companies; 38,031 employees), followed by: Clothing (5,675 companies; 16,207 employees); Hide and Leather (4,295 companies; 15,994 employees); Footwear (2,455 companies; 17,669 employees); Goldsmith’s art and Jewellery (2,315 companies; 10,808 employees).
